MOX Optimize 3

Mac slowdown detective

MOX Optimize 3 lives in the menu bar. Choose Optimize and it reads the last 30 seconds of the Mac's system log, boils thousands of lines down to the messages that repeat or report errors, and checks them for the usual suspects: Time Machine, Spotlight indexing, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, iCloud sync, heat, memory and a full disk.

If you add your own OpenAI API key, that summary goes to OpenAI, which sends back up to seven recommendations, most serious first, each with what is happening, what to do about it and the log evidence behind it. Without a key, MOX runs its built-in quick scan and nothing leaves your Mac.

What it does

Inside MOX Optimize 3

Reads the system log for you

Takes the last 30 seconds of the Mac's log, groups similar lines and counts them, so a few megabytes of noise become a short list of patterns. If your account can't read the log, macOS asks for an administrator password first.

A quick scan that stays local

Built-in checks look for a dozen common slowdowns, from a busy Time Machine backup to DNS trouble, an overheating Mac or low memory, and need no internet connection.

AI report with your own key

With an OpenAI key, the summary and basic facts about the Mac (macOS version, model, memory, uptime) are sent for analysis. You pick the model, and the key is kept in your Keychain.

Fixes you can check first

Each recommendation can come with up to three Terminal commands to copy or open. They wait for you to press Return, anything that deletes files or weakens security is blocked, and commands that came from the AI rather than the app's own vetted list are marked.

Reports you can come back to

A notification says when the analysis is done, and every run is kept in a history with its date, size and the model used, so you can reopen older reports.

See what gets sent

A debug mode shows the grouped log summary before anything is analyzed, and can save the raw log to your Downloads folder.

Good to know

  • The full AI analysis sends a summary of the last 30 seconds of your Mac's system log to OpenAI. System logs can include app names, file paths, network names and your account name.
  • The AI analysis needs your own OpenAI API key, and OpenAI bills you for its use. Without a key you get only the built-in quick scan, which never leaves your Mac.
  • Reading the log may ask for an administrator name and password if your account isn't an administrator.
  • Suggested Terminal commands only run after you open them and press Return. Read them first.
