ExoDOSMac

Launcher for eXoDOS games

ExoDOSMac is a native Mac app for browsing and playing an eXoDOS v6.04 collection, the community archive of DOS games with their box art, manuals and emulator settings. It swaps the collection's own front end for a dark poster grid with gold accents, and adds save snapshots and a way to move your saves to another Mac.

It is a launcher only and contains no games. You need the eXoDOS Lite collection on your Mac already. On first launch you drop that folder on the window and the app sets it up in place; after that, each game is fetched from the collection's own torrent only when you choose to install it.

What it does

Inside ExoDOSMac

A shelf of DOS games

Box art in a poster grid, with All Games, Continue Playing, Favourites, Installed, playlists and genres in the sidebar. Search by title, developer or publisher, filter by decade and sort by year, rating or last played. A family-friendly list is the default, and the full list can be locked behind a PIN.

Install games when you want

Picks just that game out of the collection, downloads and unpacks it with a progress bar and a cancel button, and can fetch its manual, soundtrack and extras too.

Plays the way eXoDOS intends

Starts each game through the collection's own launch scripts, so every per-game tweak keeps working. Games that ask a question at startup, like which graphics mode to use, get a proper dialog, and a sidebar switch picks fullscreen or a window.

Snapshots of your saves

Before every session the app quietly copies the game's folder, saves included, and keeps the newest six. Make named snapshots any time, and restore one with a safety copy taken first, so a restore can be undone.

Export and import saves

Packs the changed files of every installed game, with your favourites and play history, into one file. Importing it on another Mac restores them, and saves for games not yet installed wait until you install that game.

Manuals, music and videos

Each game page has a screenshot gallery with a full-screen viewer, opens manuals and extras, and plays the game's videos and soundtrack inside the app.

Good to know

  • A launcher only: it includes no games. You need your own copy of the eXoDOS v6.04 Lite collection.
  • First-time setup needs Homebrew, about 10 GB of free space and 10 to 30 minutes. It installs DOSBox Staging, DOSBox-X, ScummVM and aria2.
